Boiler Installation in Calgary, AB
High-efficiency hydronic heating systems — professionally installed, properly sized, and built to handle Calgary’s -30°C winters without skipping a beat.
Why Calgary’s Homes Run on Hydronic Heat
Forced-air furnaces move warm air — boilers circulate hot water. In Calgary’s climate, that difference is everything.
Handles Calgary's -30°C Winters
Water holds heat four times longer than air. When temperatures nosedive in January, a hydronic system keeps every room consistently warm — no cold corners, no temperature swings.
Dead Quiet — No Forced-Air Blasting
No blower motor, no ductwork rattle, no whoosh of cold air at startup. Boiler heating is silent radiant comfort — you feel it, you don’t hear it.
No Dust, No Allergens Circulating
Calgary’s dry winters already wreak havoc on air quality. Hydronic heat doesn’t blow allergens, pet dander, or dust through your home — ideal for Calgary families with allergies or asthma.
Perfect for Older Calgary Homes & No-Duct Spaces
Older Calgary homes, basement suites, garages, and additions without ductwork are ideal candidates for hydronic boiler installation. No duct retrofit required.
Boiler Systems We Install
Every Calgary home is different. We match the right hydronic system to your home’s size, hot water demand, and heating setup — after a proper heat-loss calculation.

System Boiler + Indirect Hot Water Tank
A high-efficiency condensing boiler paired with a separate indirect tank. The workhorse setup for Calgary families — handles multiple showers, in-floor zones, and baseboard loops all at once without breaking a sweat.

Radiant In-Floor Heating System
The gold standard for Calgary home comfort. A boiler circulates warm water through tubing under your floor — every room heats evenly from the ground up. Perfect for new builds, basement renovations, and whole-home retrofits.
- Best for: New Calgary builds, basement suites, comfort-focused homeowners
- Even floor-to-ceiling warmth — zero cold spots
- Multi-zone control per room or level
- Silent operation — no vents, no blowers
- Highest comfort ratings of any heating type
- New builds & renovation retrofits

- Best for: Replacing aging Calgary boilers 15–20+ years old
- Old system removed & disposed of
- Upgrade from 80% AFUE to 95%+ AFUE
- Calgary mechanical permit included
- Same-day completion on most replacements

We Do a Heat-Loss Calculation on Every Single Install
Most Calgary contractors guess the boiler size. We calculate it. An undersized boiler can’t keep up at -30°C. An oversized boiler short-cycles, wastes gas, and wears out years early.
Home Square Footage
Total heated area, ceiling heights, and storey count
Window & Insulation R-Values
Age, type, and energy rating of your windows and walls
Calgary Design Temperature
-33°C — the coldest day your boiler must handle reliably
Hot Water Demand
Number of bathrooms, fixtures, and simultaneous use patterns
Zone Configuration
Number of heating zones, zone valves, and pump requirements
Calgary Hard Water
Scale protection requirements for heat exchanger longevity
Even at -33°C
Calgary’s official heating design temperature. Every boiler we install is sized and tested for this number — not a rule-of-thumb BTU guess. When your neighbours are calling for emergency service in January, your system keeps running.

Is It Worth Replacing Your Calgary Boiler?
Honest answer: not every boiler needs replacing. Here’s exactly how to decide — the same framework we use when we walk into your Calgary home.
Repair Makes Sense When…
- Your boiler is under 15 years old with an isolated issue (failed pump, faulty valve, ignition problem)
- The heat exchanger is intact — not cracked or corroded
- Repair cost is under 30–40% of a new system's price
- Parts are still available and not discontinued
- You've had the unit maintained regularly and it's otherwise running well
Replacement Makes Sense When…
- Your boiler is 20+ years old — efficiency has degraded significantly
- The heat exchanger is cracked — a replacement heat exchanger often costs more than a new boiler
- Repair costs are piling up — if you spent $800 last year and $600 the year before, you're financing a dying unit
- It's running at 80% AFUE or below — you're wasting 20% of your gas bill every month
- Parts are discontinued or on extended backorder
- Your boiler died in a Calgary cold snap and you need heat now

Real Reviews from Real Calgary Homes
We are absolutely thrilled with the service we received from Comfort Union. When our boiler went we were out of hot water as well as heat in our basement because of the in-floor heating. Mohammed came the same day I called and I could tell immediately that he really knew what he was talking about!! He explained clearly what was wrong and what needed to be replaced. And he and Abdul came the next day to do the install and stayed late to get it done! We’re so happy with the work they both did. We highly recommend Comfort Union, Mohammed and Abdul!
We had a complete overhaul of our heating system in August. We had installed two Gree cold climate air source HPs, a hybrid Rinnai hot water HP, and a new IBC boiler for basement in floor heat and back up. The process started almost a year before because I had high minded expectations to install an air to water system. That did not pan out mainly because such a system was just being introduced in Canada and would have been difficult to retrofit. Throughout the process Asif demonstrated incredible patience, was informative and provided great advice. During the installation the guys from Comfort Union worked incredibly hard. I am very pleased with the system so far. Special thanks to Mohammad and his team. I would strongly recommend this company. Simply excellent. Thanks
I hired Comfort Union to install an IBC boiler, and they did an amazing job from start to finish. They even let me know that in the future I can replace my old furnace with an IBC fan coil instead of installing another furnace, which was super helpful information.
Daryl and Mo were incredible—professional, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. Mo even went the extra mile and replaced my kitchen sink drains while he was here.
Honestly, the best plumbing and heating company in Calgary. I couldn’t be happier with their work.
Boiler Installation FAQs
The questions every Calgary homeowner asks before booking a boiler installation. Straight answers, no runaround.
What does boiler installation cost in Calgary?
New boiler installation in Calgary typically runs $7,600 – $14,000+ depending on the system type, home size, and installation complexity. A standard system boiler + indirect tank starts at $7,600. Radiant in-floor heating systems start at $8,500 (boiler and zone controls; in-floor tubing is quoted separately). Like-for-like boiler replacements range from $7,600 – $10,000. Every Comfort Union quote includes the boiler unit, old system removal, venting, gas piping, magnetic dirt filter, City of Calgary mechanical permit, commissioning, and warranty registration — no hidden add-ons
How much is the average cost to install a boiler in Calgary, AB?
The average boiler installation cost in Calgary is roughly $8,500 – $11,000 for a residential system boiler + indirect tank in a typical 1,500–2,500 sq ft Calgary home. Simpler like-for-like replacements fall at the lower end (~$7,600–$9,500). Complex radiant system installs with multi-zone controls run higher ($10,000–$14,000+). These Calgary averages include labour, the unit, permits, and all materials.
What size boiler do I need for a 2,000 sq ft house in Calgary?
There is no reliable rule-of-thumb — and any Calgary contractor who quotes you a boiler size without doing a heat-loss calculation is guessing. For a 2,000 sq ft Calgary home, the right boiler BTU output depends on your insulation levels, window count and age, ceiling heights, number of heating zones, and Calgary’s -33°C design temperature. A well-insulated newer Calgary home might need 60,000 BTUh; a drafty older home of the same size might need 90,000 BTUh. Comfort Union performs a heat-loss calculation on every installation to get this right.
Is it worth replacing a 10-year-old boiler in Calgary?
Generally, no — a 10-year-old boiler with an isolated issue (pump, valve, ignition) is worth repairing if the heat exchanger is intact and repair cost is under $1,500–$2,000. Modern condensing boilers are built to last 15–20 years with proper annual maintenance. That said, if your 10-year-old boiler is running at 80% AFUE or below and you’re spending $500+ in repairs annually, the math starts to shift toward replacement. We’ll give you an honest assessment at your home — if repair is the smarter call, we’ll say so.
Do I need a permit for boiler installation in Calgary?
Yes. The City of Calgary requires a mechanical permit for all boiler installations and replacements. This isn’t optional — an unpermitted boiler install can void your home insurance and create problems when you sell. Comfort Union pulls the Calgary mechanical permit, schedules the city inspection, and handles the entire process. The permit cost is included in every quote — you don’t pay anything extra, and you don’t have to chase the city yourself.
How long does boiler installation take in Calgary?
Most boiler replacements in Calgary are completed in a single day. A system conversion (e.g., upgrading from a conventional boiler to a condensing system with a new indirect tank) typically takes 1.5–2 days. A full radiant in-floor heating installation with a new boiler, multiple zones, zone valves, and zone pumps can take 2–5 days depending on the scope. We’ll give you an accurate timeline in your written quote.
Combi boiler vs. system boiler — which is right for my Calgary home?
A combi boiler does heating and hot water in one compact unit — ideal for condos, townhouses, and Calgary homes under ~1,800 sq ft with 1–2 bathrooms and moderate hot water demand. A system boiler + indirect tank is the right call for larger Calgary homes with 2+ bathrooms, high simultaneous hot water demand (soaker tubs, multiple showers), or existing multi-zone radiant heating setups. Calgary’s cold groundwater also affects combi boiler hot water flow rates — our team factors this in during sizing. See our Combi Boiler Installation page for full details.
